Very unique. Very colourful.
A Tribute to the Ruhr Region
Our hotels An der Zeche, City Garden and Ernestine are a tribute to the Ruhr region. And to the mining industry that shaped it and the three hotels.
Our History Book
Detonations. Heavy machinery. Tunnels and shafts running below ground. The centuries of coal and iron ore mining have influenced the land in the Ruhr region. Buildings and whole streets have sunk – and bear architectural disparities as an obvious sign of our "dynamic" history.
Not weird, but rather unique: What some might see as a flaw is, in our opinion, a unique feature! That's why we have lovingly restored the hotels and very deliberately kept this feature visible. Tilted walls and corners, sloping floors ... a walk through our stairways can remind you of walking along the deck of ship on the high seas.
But don't worry: the floors and walls in the rooms have been leveled out and straightened to ensure you not only an authentic but also a relaxing stay with us.
Our Kettle of Color.
Our colorful facades are visible from a distance. A counterpoint to the gray history of the region. And a refleciton of the society that has developed in the Ruhr region, also as a result of the mining and the industrialization. Different cultures, characters and talents ... we live colorful diversity in the Ruhr region! Pure integration along the banks of the Ruhr.
As sensational as the houses are from the outside, they are subdued and comfortable on the inside: warm, Mediterranean color schemes dominate in the rooms and apartments. Natural woods like maple, oak, French walnut and poplar root create a comfortable, feel-good atmosphere.
Petul insider tip:
If you want to experience industrial culture up close, then the Zollverein coal mine, a World Heritage Site, is a must-see attraction. The UNESCO monument is just a stone's throw from all of the "very unique, very colorful" hotels.
